Initial consultation
There are normally four steps in our design build process. The first is an initial consultation. There is no charge for this consultation. The purpose of this meeting is to view the property and discuss with the owners their needs and wishes. In broad strokes we give them our initial feelings including the feasibility of the project and ball park costs. We also explain our process and answer whatever general questions we can. If this meeting is successful and both parties remain interested Essex will prepare a simple contract to prepare a study.
Conceptual Design Study
Depending upon the scope of the project, the cost of a conceptual design study will usually range from $500 to $2,500. Essex has chosen to use this step for several reasons. There is a relatively small financial commitment from the owners. This retainer allows us to measure and inspect the property, discuss the owners' wishes and their feasibility, and finally, develop a concept and prepare a cursory budget. During this stage, which can take several meetings, both the client and Essex determine whether to move on to the next step which is to develop a full set of plans and specifications.
